Everyone is talking about value. Some folks want to know how to get more value while others want to know how to give more value. Despite all the emphasis being placed on value, most people have a hard time describing what value is. As a result, they're not really sure when they're getting or giving it. For example, one company we know of has developed an elaborate two- by-two matrix that assesses the current value of their strategic relationships relative to their potential value. Yet when asked how they defined value, they were unable to describe what they were measuring. They're not alone.

The Rhythm of Business Partners with Association of Strategic Alliance Professionals to Launch Alliance Workshop
The Rhythm of Business has announced a new workshop series, "Measuring and Managing the Value in Every Alliance Relationship for Strategic and Financial Benefit." Offered in collaboration with the Association of Strategic Alliance Professionals (A.S.A.P), the workshop series focuses on how the discipline of relationship business can help companies overcome alliances' traditionally high failure rate. The first workshop was hosted in London by Cable & Wireless on April 15, 2003; the second workshop will be held in Boston on May 15. Subsequent workshops will be held in Atlanta, June 2003; San Diego, July 2003; and Houston, Sept. 2003. For more information and to register, click on the link below.

Joy Thompson, DBA, has joined The Rhythm of Business as a principal. Joy, an internationally recognized authority on strategic alliances, has spent more than 20 years in operational and alliance management for three multi-billion-dollar high-tech leaders - Digital Equipment Corporation, Compaq, and, most recently, Hewlett- Packard, where she served as vice president of strategic alliances.
